The hallway was dark and cold, the sounds of moaning echoed through the halls from all directions. The sound of something liquid and thick squished under my feet. Where am I and how did I get here? My hand was shaking while I held the gun up to my chest height. Advancing slowly down the hallway the moaning behind me was gradually getting louder. I have to get out of here? There has to be some sort of communication room to call for help, I need to get a hold of Leon or Chris. Slowly flanking the corner more darkness covered the next hall. Leon where are you? Keeping close to the wall I slowly made my way down the darkness, glancing behind me verifying nothing was there. A small light was shown on the wall as a door opened a few feet away from me. A little blonde girl with a white shirt and blue shorts walked into the light with her back facing me. Sherry? It can't be her, why would she be here?
"Sherry! It is me Claire." The figure didn't turn towards me but ran from the door and further ahead into the darkness of the hall.
"Sherry wait! "I advanced quickly when something grabbed my leg and pulled me down hard to the cold wet ground. The gun landed a few feet away from me as something continued to grip my leg and pull me back.
"No!" I turned and kicked furiously to make it to let go enough to make it to my gun. One of my feet made contact with something and a hard cracking noise followed. Pushing backwards my hands got enough traction to slide me back until I hit something. The small light from the room lit up a segment of the hallway and the wooden door supporting me, as I was trying to catch my breath. I have to get out of here, but how? Where did that little girl go? The sound of something sliding diverted me from my thoughts as what grabbed me appeared into the light. The flesh had worn away from most of its face and the eye sunken into its socket. The smell was over whelming and caused me to gag, while my hand blindly looked for the gun. It gripped onto my leg and pulled itself completely into the light exposing the damage my foot had done. It opened its foul mouth to grind its teeth into my flesh when my hand found the gun. The firing of the gun echoed the hall as the remnants of its brain splattered on my jeans. Great another pair of jeans ruined by zombie brains seems to be an unending theme for me. I checked the ammo in my gun and pulled myself up by the door. I made my way further down the darkened hallway when a loud pound amplified over the moaning from behind me. The pound was consistent and getting louder with each minute that passed. I increased my pace when the sound of an elevator came from around the corner just a few feet in front of me. She must have gotten on the elevator, maybe it will lead to a way out of here. The pounding was getting closer and I had no time to wait around to find out. The elevator was clear but on the button panel there was only 1 floor to choose, the communications room. How convenient. An agonizing scream echoed through the halls followed by more pounding that increased its intervals. I quickly pressed the button and leaned against the back of the elevator keeping my vision on the door. It reached the floor and the elevator door opened to a light that blinded me instantly. At least it wasn't another dark hallway but why is this room different? My eyes adjusted to see computers lying around the room and TV monitors. I ran to one of the consoles and tried to access my email or messenger but the computer didn't respond. None of these work, now what am I suppose to do now? The pounding vibrated the floor beneath me and the elevator doors closed. Whatever is making that noise is trying to get up here and there is nowhere to go. Panic was setting in
I am trapped and have only 3 bullets left. Come on Claire you have to get it together, what would Leon do? Closing my eyes and taking a deep breath in I tried to get my composure.
"Claire you have to get out of here now, he is coming for you!" A familiar voice startled me and I opened my eyes to a memorable face.
how is this possible? I saw you die."
"Claire this is not the time you have to leave now, he will kill you! Take that door out, it will lead you to a hallway quickly!" He pointed to a door that wasn't there before, or at least I didn't notice it. Is this place making me crazy?
? I wanted to go up and to touch him or hug him to make sure he was really there.
"Claire you got to go now!"
"Come with me Steve, please."
"I am sorry I couldn't keep my promise Claire, but I will protect you now. Go!" He lowered his head and I knew he still felt guilty about what happened on the island.
" I took a step towards him to try and comfort him, too show him he didn't fail me.
He stepped back from me and looked over at the elevator that just arrived on our floor.
"Claire get out now, I will hold him off till you escape."
" He turned away from me and headed towards the elevator door just as whatever it was pounded the metal door outwards. A tear ran down my face and I started to advance forward to help him fight off whatever it was.
"Claire please get out of here now, I would never forgive myself if something happened to you."
The intensity in his eyes for just that moment sent shivers down my spine. The creature pounded again on the door and it jammed it slightly ajar for a moment.
"Go now this is your chance, I love you Claire." He turned his back again towards me and I knew I had to keep moving.
I ran towards the exit door and continued down another dark hallway. How could I leave him there to fight alone? I need to go back and help him before it is too late. I stopped in my tracks and heard the crashing of the elevator doors to the hard ground. Steve!
"Claire over here, you can hide in here." The little girl walked out from a door down the hall and motioned me to follow.
She glanced to make sure I was headed towards her and disappeared back into the room. I entered another dim lit room and quickly closed the door behind me. My heart was pounding and the fear of never getting out of here a live set in. I was exhausted and scared and didn't even know if Steve was okay. A hard pound sent a vibration along with wall followed by a couple more that were getting louder. I turned to tell the little girl to hide but I didn't see her in sight, I guess she was thinking the same thing. An eerie silence came upon the hallway and all I could hear was my heart beat and the intensity of my breathing. Maybe it gave up? I quietly pressed my ear to the door when something struck the door with a hard force. The pounding got harder and was shaking the door on its hinges. This door is not going to hold for long, I hope the little girl is safe. Leon I need you to come and save me please. I went to a corner behind one of the desks and tucked my knees into my chest. Leon
A loud crack startled me awake to the red numbers of my alarm clock reading 3:00am.
